Time to time I’m in the mood to make a dessert, not very complicated. My husband was craving for a traditional apple pie with a lot of cinnamon, so I revived an old pie dough recipe and upgraded with some milk and butter. But why not add some crunchy texture to the puree apple filling? I wanted nuts, but I’ve got only almond flakes, so I roasted them a bit and gave a christmassy flavor with some anise star.

You can imagine what flavors I’ve got in my kitchen, while it was nicely raising and baking in the oven. The dough was a totally success, fluffy, elastic with a crunchy and soft filling, that for sure I’ll repeat with pumpkin, my favorite <3 What’s your favorite pie flavor? Diana . Ingredients for 2 rolled pies Dough - 500g all purpose flour - 7g dried yeast - 300 ml warm almond milk - 50 ml melted butter - 1 teaspoon sugar for yeast Filling - 8 apples - 50g butter - 50 ml maple syrup - 50g almond flakes - 3 tablespoon cinnamon, 5 anise stars . Preparation 1. Dough: mix dried yeast with warm almond milk and sugar and let active the yeast for 10 min. Mix flour with yeast and butter and knit until is a fluffy, not sticky dough. Let is rise for 1h, in a warm place, covered. 2. Filling: peel apples and cut into very small pieces. Let is rise from the extra juice. Into a pan melt butter and add anise stars and almond flakes to roast for 3 mins. Add apple and maple syrup and let is cook for 15 mins, until tender and becomes like a paste. When almost ready, add cinnamon, mix well and let three more mins. Filling now ready. 3. Divide dough into 2 parts and roll each chunk into a rectangle shape, not very thin. Add half apple filling and distribute evenly over dough. Roll the dough carefully, spread some beaten egg and add it on the tray. Bake them at 180 degrees for 40-45 min or until get a nicely brownie crust. Serve it with your favorite icecream flavor. . . . .
